It's safe to say that most NBA fans, pundits and players rank LeBron James and Kevin Durant as the two greatest basketball players in the world, but don't say that to New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis.

In an interview with ESPN's Rachel Nichols, the 25-year-old Davis explained why he thinks he's the best of the best in a star-studded league.

"Honestly, I see myself as the best player in the league, the most dominant player in the league," Davis said. "I just think it’s time for that step. You only get a short window, and I don’t want that window to close, so I think my time is now."

The five-time All-Star is without a doubt a top-10 player in the world, and you can make a debate that he's in the top-five. But it's tough to make a case that Davis is better than James, Durant or even two-time MVP Stephen Curry. Even James Harden has made his case a potential top-three player in the NBA. And let's not forget Kawhi Leonard here.

Davis is coming off a career year in which he averaged 28.1 points, 11.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. The Pelicans won 48 games and swept the third-seeded Portland Trail Blazers in the opening round of the postseason. The Pelicans lost to the eventual champion Golden State Warriors in five games the following round.

It's fair on Davis to have that much confidence in himself, and he could be the NBA's best player in five years if Durant and James are both retired by then. But when you stack up individual talent and accomplishments, 'The King' and KD easily take the cake as the two greatest players in the world.

Davis will have the chance to showcase himself more as the "best" player in the world if he can deliver another incredible season in 2019-20. But with all due respect to his claims, it will be a while until fans label anybody else as better players than James and Durant.
