The way things are laid out right now for WrestleMania 34, history is about to be made.

If the Charlotte vs. Asuka match goes as planned, it will be the first time there has been a women's singles match on the WrestleMania card since WrestleMania 23 when Melina fought Ashley in a Lumberjill match. Some people may suggest that because this was a gimmick match, it doesn't count. If you're in agreement with them, then fans would need to go another year back to WrestleMania 22 when Trish Stratus fought Mickie James. That's over a decade since WWE promoted the female competitors in a way that a feud was worthy enough to have two women square-off one-on-one.

Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka is a dream match for some. Considered a future star in wrestling, Charlotte has the Flair legacy, was one of the original four horsewomen and certainly is one of the better in-ring performers for WWE in the women's division. Meanwhile, Asuka has torn up the roster since her debut in NXT and there seems to be nothing that can stop her path toward the Women's WWE Championship. Charlotte may be the first woman with the means to stop Asuka in her tracks.

The WWE is also in the midst of a "revolution" for the women's division. Heavily promoting in-ring wrestling and not "Divas", wrestlers like Asuka, Flair, Becky Lynch, Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss, Bayley and Sasha Banks are getting prime spots on WWE programming, this year alone being part of a first-ever Elimination Chamber match and women's only Royal Rumble match. That the WWE would ensure a one-on-one match for the women on this WrestleMania card makes absolute sense.

Charlotte vs. Asuka will not be the only one-on-one match. There are rumors that Sasha Banks vs. Bayley and Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax will happen on the card as well. Fans will also see a first-ever Women's Battle Royal match and Ronda Rousey become a central part of the WrestleMania 34 weekend.
