Austin Aries doesn't believe people should be forced to wear masks and has attempted to explain why via a post on Twitter.

The world is a scary place right now for a lot of reasons. Reason number one is that despite how it may seem as people try to return to some sense of normality, we are still in the midst of a global pandemic. Some parts of the world are finding that out the hard way as restrictions that were eased too quickly have had to be put back in place.

Even though the world has to return to normal sooner rather than later, the transition needs to be gradual. Lifting lockdowns and telling everyone to carry on like the last three months never happened isn't going to work. The virus is still out there and if masks are not worn and social distance isn't maintained, it will begin to spread at an alarming rate for a second time.

The masks debate is one that continues to rage on. There is irrefutable evidence that wearing a mask in public significantly reduces the chance of the wearer spreading or catching COVID-19. However, some people still don't think they should have to wear one. That group includes Austin Aries who posted a statement he read elsewhere providing an argument as to why he and anyone else should not be forced to wear a mask in public.

The statement Aries has shared questions why someone else's health should be his responsibility. "Passing off YOUR health to everyone else around you. It doesn't work that way," it reads. It goes on to state that if the writer were in charge of someone else's health, they would remove all the cigarettes, alcohol, and junk food from their grocery cart.

Aries states that he had the mask/no mask debate with someone earlier this week. The trouble is, eating junk food and drinking alcohol affects the health of that one individual. Choosing not to wear a mask during a pandemic affects not only those around the non-wearer, but also everyone those people come into contact with, and then the people those others come into contact with, and so on, and so on. If the former Impact Champion contracts COVID-19, chances are he will wish he and whoever gave him the virus was wearing a mask.
