Another nugget to come out of the Something Else to Wrestle With Bruce Prichard videocast on the WWE Network was the revelation that Mr. McMahon vs Stone Cold Steve Austin was never really supposed to happen, nonetheless be a long-term solution for WWE.

As host Bruce Prichard tells the story, WWE was just finishing internally discussing the idea of a Mike Tyson boxer vs a wrestler match, knowing that would be gold, WWE found out Tyson wasn't interested.  Tyson only wanted to get his name out there, make some money and keep his name out there in a positive light.

McMahon was "tickled" with the press that was covering the Tyson involvement but was disappointed that it meant having to rely on Shawn vs Austin which was looking to be in jeopardy due to some very serious injuries Michaels was going through. There was concern about how WWE was going to get Michaels to the main event of WrestleMania XIV.

Conrad asked,"When did you guys know you were going to go to the McMahon vs Austin and was this hurried along or did it sort of just happen because you didn't have anybody else for Steve to mix it up with?"

Prichard replied, "The entire Mr. McMahon character was a happy accident." He added, "The fact that we didn't have Shawn and the fact that we really couldn't start a program with anyone else... we knew in the back of our mind we were going to go with Mick Foley versus Steve post-WrestleMania, but on the way there, you've got to get to Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels."

Prichard goes on to explain that because WWE had this character Mr. McMahon who was saying "Bret screwed Bret", people were booing McMahon. They used Vince as the owner character as a stop-gap. Austin had to have somebody to work off of and with no Tyson and no Michaels, that person became Vince. It just happened that way. No one planned to start this Mr. McMahon character and start this great program. "It was, we need something, it's here, it's logical, let's use it as a bridge to get where we need to go," Prichard said.

The plan was only to hold things over until Mick Foley was ready to feud with Austin. "Mr. McMahon, at that time, was never going to be that 'long' character. You say that now, you look at the Mr. McMahon character and what defined Monday Night Raw in so many ways which was the Austin / McMahon Era. Um, no, at this point, we were using Vince as the bridge to get where we needed to go," said Prichard.

He finished the story laughing, saying the beauty of the character was that, "It was Vince just being Vince."
