Baron Corbin has taken a shot at wrestling fans for being okay with Chris Jericho winning AEW's World Title but not liking when WWE uses older Superstars.

AEW crowned its first World Champion this past Saturday at All Out. Although it might have been the plan to award Hangman Page that honor at one point, the powers-that-be ultimately decided to make Chris Jericho their first champion. We certainly think it makes sense to have a widely recognized name on top heading into AEW's first episode on TNT.

Whether making Y2J champ is a good decision or not, there is certainly a modicum of controversy surrounding his crowning. For starters, Jericho is currently 48 years old. Some fans might be a little confused as to why a brand new company supposedly focused on young and hungry talent would make someone Y2J's age its first champion.

One fan highlighted that via a meme over the weekend, as you can see below. What that fan likely didn't expect was for Baron Corbin to weigh in on the argument. The Lone Wolf replied to the meme with, "all of these smarks have hated everything we do...now they are forced to like everything these guys do." The meme itself highlights the fact that Jericho is six years older than recent Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar.

Corbin really doesn't hold back, claiming that fans who are okay with Jericho being champion are showing how dumb they really are. There's also a version of the post in which Corbin labels WWE and AEW as being "the exact same thing." We're currently unsure as to whether one post was edited by a fan, or if Corbin went back and changed the wording as to not annoy any of his employers.

What we think Corbin and the creator of the meme are ultimately misunderstanding when it comes to this situation is what fans are really annoyed by. Most have no problem with older wrestlers having a spot on the card. It's older wrestlers who are only coming back for one or two matches that just want a payday. Jericho does not fall into that bracket, and will presumably feature on AEW most weeks once it goes live on TNT.
