When we get to the end of each calendar year, we naturally reflect on the wrestling year that was. What we loved, what we hated. We also ask one another who we believe had the best 2018 when it comes to WWE. It's a tricky question to answer, and one we believe doesn't simply have one definite answer. Here are the handful of Superstars we believe deserve the accolade of being called the very best of 2018.

Tomasso Ciampa

via foxsportsasia.com

Being a great heel in wrestling in the 21st century is extremely difficult. Not the kind of heel hardcore fans still love and cheer for, but the type who unites our hatred. Tomasso Ciampa has personified exactly that in 2018. Time and time again, Ciampa has thwarted Johnny Gargano and it has broken our hearts every time. Not only has he led the best rivalry in WWE for years and also put on some of the best matches, but he also became NXT Champion. A huge year for the Black Heart of NXT.

Daniel Bryan

While we're on the topic of wrestlers playing great heels, we'd be remiss not to bring up Daniel Bryan. What a hear it has been for the WWE Champion, and his heel antics have only come at the tail end of it. Bryan's wrestling year began with him coming out of retirement. Since then, we have had the opportunity to see him in any number of dream matches, matches we thought we would never get to see. There's no telling how long this Bryan run will last, but we really hope we have a while to go yet.

Seth Rollins

via wwe.com

When it comes to performances in the ring, there aren't many that have been able to hold a candle to Seth Rollins in 2018. His incredible performance in the seven-man gauntlet match on Raw back in February. His 30-minute Iron Man match with Dolph Ziggler. Plus, The Architect has been winning the gold to back it up too. Intercontinental Champion, Raw Tag Team Champion, now all we need to see from him is a Universal Title run in 2019.

Charlotte Flair

Let's be honest, if we were backed into a corner and forced to pick just one WWE Superstar of the year, it would probably be a woman. Almost everything good that has happened in WWE in 2018 has revolved around the promotion's female Superstars. Despite Charlotte Flair being absent for a short while, The Queen has been involved in a lot of the biggest and best matches. Her showdown with Asuka at WrestleMania, the Last Woman Standing match at Evolution, all the way up to her TLC loss just a couple of weeks ago.

Velveteen Dream

via stillrealtous.com

Back to NXT and a young Superstar who not only has an extremely bright future, but a really bright present. Time and time again this year, Velveteen Dream has shown exactly how talented he is in the ring, on the mic, he really is the total package. There is currently no one in the company, on any brand, who is as committed to their character as much as Dream. Plus, his TakeOver match with fellow Wrestler Of The Year candidate Tomasso Ciampa was a masterpiece.

Becky Lynch

via thenational.ae

Don't worry guys, we definitely did not forget her. Becky Lynch. The woman, sorry The Man, who has taken WWE by storm ever since she turned on Flair at SummerSlam. Since then she has been the best thing about WWE, perhaps wrestling as a whole. Her promos have been fire, and that fire has extended to social media. Plus, the most important part, her outstanding matches with the likes of The Queen and Asuka. There's an asterisk as Lynch's current run didn't start until August, but she has more than made up for lost time during the last third of the year.

Ronda Rousey

via thenational.ae

Some of you may throw a flag on us for this one, but we don't feel like this list is complete without Ronda Rousey. Come on though, who saw this coming? Need we remind you that Rousey only wrestled her first match ever this year at WrestleMania 34? The Rowdy One has taken to the business like a duck to water. Hitting the ground running in the way that she did means she is already Raw Women's Champion. Plus, and this might be the most important thing for all for us, she hasn't treated WWE like Brock Lesnar does. Rousey clearly loves WWE and either appears or wrestles on Raw pretty much every week.

As hard as some of WWE's product has been to watch in 2018, as you can see above, it really hasn't been all bad. There are so many more names that deserve honorable mentions too. The likes of Drew McIntyre, Pete Dunne, AJ Styles, and Asuka. The roster is stacked in WWE right now, and 2019 is looking like it might be an even bigger year for the company than the one we are about to leave behind.
