Renee Young and Beth Phoenix will be part of the broadcast team for the upcoming WWE Mae Young Classic.

Even though Vince McMahon is apparently not a big fan of tournaments, they have played a big part in WWE's history. For years, the company would annually crown a King Of The Ring, and there have even been times when a new WWE Champion has been decided via winning a tournament.

Triple H has taken wrestling tournaments in WWE to the next level though. It started with the Cruiserweight Classic, then evolved via the UK Title tournament, and the most groundbreaking to date has been the Mae Young Classic. So much so that on September 5, 2018, the second one will begin less than a year after the first one came to an end. There are going to be some changes this time around though.

The biggest change is to the announce team. Jim Ross and Lita led the way last year and while they did a great job in doing so, this year's setup is even more exciting. It was announced via ESPN that the announce team for this year's Mae Young Classic will be made up of three people, Michael Cole, Renee Young, and Beth Phoenix. It marks the first time that two females have ever been on a WWE announce team at the same time, obviously not including when Superstars sit in for the odd match.

While Cole is obviously extremely experienced and will naturally lead the way, Phoenix and Young will be looking to build on the recent experience that they have picked up. The Glamazon made her commentating debut during the Mixed Match Challenge earlier this year, and Young was a part of NXT's commentary team a while ago. Cole has worked with both women separately but admitted to ESPN that he doesn't want to work with both of them at the same time until the tournament begins so that they can "elicit unrehearsed reactions."

This year's Mae Young Classic is shaping up to be even better than last year's and that's not just because of the new announce team. Some of the best competitors from last year's tournament such as Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez will be returning, Kaitlyn will be returning to WWE for the first time in more than four years, and the final will take place at WWE Evolution on October 28, 2018. Exciting stuff with a top-notch announce team calling the action.
