WWE superstar Big E has revealed he's got a reason to worry over the health of his heart, albeit not a huge one.
The New Day member has been on a rewarding singles run, with his tag team cohorts Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods both out with injury.
Speaking on the faction's Feel the Power podcast, E disclosed he's been told he should keep tabs on his heart as its walls are thicker than that of a normal heart due to exertion from working out.
E added that, despite losing a bit of weight and adding more cardio to his workout regimen, his heart is paying for several years of heavy lifting.
“We do these EKGs and physicals every year. I was told that all the years of exertion from working out thickens the walls of your heart," he explained (H/T wrestlingnews.co). "So despite losing a lot of weight, doing more cardio and being very clean lately, I have a thicker heart wall because I’ve been working out seriously since I was 12, but even before that, I was working out at 9 or 10. I was told it’s not a massive worry, but something to keep an eye on.”
Not All Bad
As E said, there's no reason to lose sleep over the condition. Fortunately for him, he's in a position to keep proper tabs on his health and, now that he knows there's a bit of an issue, he will likely be paying lots of attention to it.
The condition is not uncommon. Persons who do regular strength exercises could experience thickening via a process referred to as hypertrophy and there is an upside, as one's heart will be able to pump harder and contract with greater force.
Athletes who engage in endurance-based workouts can also experience hypertrophy of a different sort.
