Biggest Rumors In The NBA This Week: January 19, 2019

Each week, the most popular basketball league in the world has plenty to discuss. And, when it comes to rumors, the NBA never disappoints.

Is there a variety of options for Carmelo Anthony to pursue this season or is his career pretty much over? Is one of the best coaches in the NBA calling it quits after this season? Are the Sacramento Kings interested in Jeremy Lin and the Toronto Raptors interested in Bradley Beal?

There is plenty to talk about but here are the biggest rumors in the NBA this week, January 19, 2019.

Carmelo Anthony Has Options

Even though stays in Oklahoma and the Houston Rockets didn't go according to plan, with the trade deadline fast approaching in the NBA, The Athletic's Sam Amick and Joe Vardon are reporting that Carmelo Anthony has "multiple options available" and will make a decision ahead of the cutoff point for trades on February 7.

According to the report, the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams interested. "There is no clarity as to whether he would be traded in these scenarios or waived and subsequently signed, but there are strong signs that he will play in the NBA again," suggests the report.

A source close to LeBron James suggests James want Carmelo in Los Angeles but that Anthony's overall conditioning and ability will play a pivotal role in any decision.

Gregg Popovich Retiring?

via NBA.com

While San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich hasn't expressed any interest in retiring he isn't ready to reveal what his plans are for next season. When asked about whether or not he'll stay the coach, "I don't know the answer," Popovich said, per Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Spurs president R.C. Buford claims Popovich has a lifetime offer to coach in San Antonio as long as he wants but his contract does expire at the end of this season as he is 70 years old. Perhaps he signs a one-year deal and gives it one more go.

Regardless of what he decides to go, Popovich will go down as one the best coaches in the history of the NBA.

Kings Interested In Jeremy Lin?

According to The New York Times Marc Stein, the Sacramento Kings have reportedly expressed "exploratory interest" in Atlanta Hawks guard Jeremy Lin. The Atlanta Hawks have made the veteran guard, as well as Dewayne Dedmon and Kent Bazemore, available in trade ahead of February's deadline and the Kings may see Lin as an option.

If acquired, Lin would play in a backup role behind De'Aaron Fox but Lin may welcome the change. It is speculated Lin has been frustrated with the drop in playing time in Atlanta and finds he can't get into a rhythm playing so infrequently.

Raptors Still Interested In Bradley Beal

Despite a high asking price by the Washington Wizards, the Toronto Raptors have been rumored to be interested in trading for Wizards guard, Bradley Beal. Sporting News reported that the Raptors had been told any deal would need to include two players and two future first-round picks in exchange for Beal and the suggested players might be  Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby.

It's hard it imagine the Raptors being willing to deal Siakam considering the leaps he's taken this season and when you factor in the cost of his contract. Adding Beal puts the Raptors even higher into a luxury tax situation so the price will have to lower if the Wizards are going to move him to Toronto. And, when you consider other teams like the Boston Celtics have also expressed interest, a move to the Raptors seems less and less likely.
