Despite an outstanding performance by Barkley, the quarterback roulette might continue in the Buffalo Bills.

Bills’ quarterback Matt Barkley led the Bills to their third win of the season after a humiliating 41-10 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Head coach Sean McDermott, however, didn’t commit to start Barkley when his team return from its upcoming bye week.

"Give me some time here," McDermott said. "We'll reassess (Monday) when we get in [and] look at the film."

Barkley became the fourth starting quarterback of Buffalo this season after the injuries of the first-round pick Josh Allen (elbow) and the veteran Derek Anderson (concussion), besides Nathan Peterman’s disastrous performances where he stacked up one touchdown and seven interceptions.

On Sunday, the USC product completed 15 of 25 for 232 yards and a 117.4 passer rating – which actually was the highest for Buffalo since the now-longed for Tyrod Taylor, last season. Barkley threw for two touchdowns, including one to the offensive tackle Dion Dawkins. The 28-year-old quarterback two-touchdown and zero-interception performance was easily the best performance by a Bills’ signal-caller this season. Allen, Anderson, and Peterman have thrown a combined three touchdowns and 16 interceptions. And the whole Buffalo offense looked dazzling, by Sunday’s match halftime they had already scored almost the same amount of points (31) as the previous four games (33).

Even though this was Barkley’s first appearance in the NFL since 2016 – when he started six games for the Chicago Bears, he believes that a football field it’s where belongs.

"I knew that I can play in this league," Barkley said. "To get back out there after two years, it was -- I don't want to be cliché by saying it was like riding a bike -- but I've done this for years. I feel like I was made to play football and tonight was just an example of doing what I was made to do."

The biggest reason why coach McDermott doesn't commit to make Barkley his starting quarterback after such an amazing game is the rookie Josh Allen, who was drafted to be the future of the franchise. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Allen is expected to be ready to return after Bills’ bye week.
