The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday that they're starting rookie quarterback Josh Allen in their Week 2 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Bills sat Allen in their Week 1 contest against the Baltimore Ravens, fearing that he'd get hit aplenty and rattled against one of the NFL's best defenses. Buffalo's putrid offensive line was one of the top storylines of the preseason, and the team didn't want to risk Allen getting injured this early into his career.

But Allen saw brief action on Sunday after replacing the struggling Nathan Peterman. Allen finished with six completions on 15 attempts for 74 yards, but he was sacked three times in an ugly 47-3 loss.

Peterman completed just five passes for 24 yards, throwing two interceptions while getting sacked twice. He also threw five interceptions in his debut against the Chargers last season, so it's probably wise of head coach Sean McDermott to keep Peterman on the bench for the rematch.

The Bills traded up to draft Allen with the seventh overall pick in the 2018 draft, and it was expected that he would be the starter after the team decided to trade A.J. McCarron to the Oakland Raiders.

But the Bills, coming off their first playoff berth in 18 years, wanted to play it safe for Allen in Week 1. He now faces a Chargers team that was blown out against the Kansas City Chiefs at home. If Joey Bosa is good to go for L.A. this weekend, then the Bills wretched offensive line will have quite a task.

Buffalo does have a strong running game, led by LeSean McCoy. They could decide to run a conservative offense on Sunday, filled with short passes and carries for McCoy. But for all we know, McDermott is ready to have Allen unleash all it all on Sunday.
