Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand has made headlines for a couple of licking incidents during the playoffs, and the rival Montreal Canadiens took a shot at him following the team's postseason exit on Sunday:

Marchand then fired back at the Canadiens with this savage shot:

Marchand and the Bruins reached the second round of the postseason, but the Tampa Bay Lightning dispatched them in five games. As for the Habs, well, Marchand does have a point. Montreal had one of their worst seasons in franchise history, and they finished as the NHL's fourth-worst team in 2017-18.

Marchand is developing a reputation as perhaps the most hated player in hockey. Nevermind the suspensions and fines, but his licking of Toronto Maple Leafs Leo Komarov and Ryan Callahan of the Lightning brought Marchand under plenty of fire.

This prompted the NHL to issue a statement where they warned Marchand that any more of these antics would lead to discipline.

Marchand has had numerous suspensions for a series of dangerous hits, slew foots and more. He's known as "The Rat" for his over-the-top antics and cheapshots, but many consider the licking incidents as his worst moves. But the haters of Marchand got the last laugh as his Bruins were held quiet during their playoff loss to the Lightning.

As for the Canadiens, they'll try and bounce back after missing the playoffs for the second time in three years. Though owning the third-overall selection will help, this team also has to find a way to score more goals while rebuilding a miserable defence.

Captain Max Pacioretty and 2012 third-overall pick Alex Galchenyuk have been mentioned aplenty in trade rumors, and it's possible both have played their final games with the franchise.

It will be an interesting offseason for GM Marc Bergevin. As for Marchand, it's safe to say he'll be buying a lot of ice cream this summer - since he can lick it and all.
