Brandon Ingram is set for a short spell on the sidelines after hurting his left ankle while playing against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.

The swingman, who is believed to have sprained the joint, will sit out this week's second Spurs clash, scheduled for Friday. Per NBA.com, he should have had a precautionary MRI done on Thursday night.

Ingram is also expected to miss Saturday's game against the Memphis Grizzlies but should be back in time to face the Miami Heat this coming Monday.

The 21-year-old sustained the injury after landing on LaMarcus Aldridge's foot during the first quarter of the win over the Spurs. And it was reported that he had to use crutches after the game.

X-rays were taken on Wednesday night and returned negative. However, the team opted to have a precautionary MRI done on Thursday.

The player has not traveled to San Antonio with the rest of the team. And this is the first time he will miss games as the result of an injury this term.

Having served a four-game suspension earlier this season for his part in the huge brawl between the Lakers and the Houston Rockets, the youngster has been ever-present in Luke Walton's set-up.

What This Means

Ingram has been far from perfect this season, yet he is still a very important player for the Lakers. He's their second-highest leading scorer so far this term, averaging 15.2 points on 47 percent shooting, while hauling 4.0 boards and dishing out 2.2 assists per contest.

The versatile, third-year man has also been great defensively and his absence, however short, could leave the team with something to be desired.
