Impact Wrestling Crowned A New World Champion At Rebellion [GIFs]

Brian Cage brought the curtain down on Johnny Impact's six-month reign as Impact World Champion at Rebellion.

Impact Wrestling is a curious company. Many fans who still follow the promotion believe that Impact's in-ring product is currently better than it has been in years. The trouble is, it can't find a suitable platform to broadcast that product to the world. Despite it moving network at the beginning of the year and also streaming on Twitch, it still isn't doing great numbers.

The promotion marches on regardless and put on its Rebellion PPV over the weekend. One of the biggest matches on the show came in the form of Johnny Impact versus Brian Cage. A deeply personal rivalry that culminated in a showdown for Impact's biggest prize, the World Championship. Before Sunday, Impact had held the title for six months, but not any longer.

Cage defeated Impact and is now the new World Champion. The win did not come easily though, not by a long shot. Impact and his real-life wife/Knockouts Champion Taya Valkyrie have been making Cage's life a living hell in the build to this match. Valkyrie was on hand to ensure that continued in this match. However, as you can see below, Valkyrie got what was coming to her in the form of a powerbomb from Cage.

Normally a new champion's first worry is a rematch against the defeated party. However, it seems as if Impact might be taking a page from WWE's book and not staging obligatory rematches. As soon as Cage defeated Impact, he was confronted by brand new signing Michael Elgin. Elgin has been making a name for himself in New Japan for the past four years but has now arrived in Impact and been shot straight to the top.

As for Impact himself, even though he was only champion for six months, it feels as if his extremely heated rivalry with Austin Aries was a lifetime ago. Things might not have gotten quite as personal between Impact and Cage, but it was still a highly entertaining feud. Who knows? It might not be over yet. Perhaps we could see a triple threat between the champ, the former champ, and Elgin at Impact's next PPV.
