Bruce Arians retired from coaching after a disappointing 2017 season for the Arizona Cardinals, but if one specific team comes calling, he'll happily return to the sidelines again.

Speaking to NFL.com, Arians explained that he'd come back to coach for the Cleveland Browns - who fired Hue Jackson and replaced him with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

"I would listen to the Browns," Arians said. "And only them. I've always loved Cleveland. The fans, shoot, one of the best groups in the league and when I called their game this past year, I got that feeling about them."

One of the most brilliant offensive-minded head coaches of this decade, Arians coached the Arizona Cardinals from 2013-17. He led them to three straight winning seasons (2013-15), and led them to the NFC Championship in his third year there.

Before that, Arians was interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, while head coach Chuck Pagano stepped away briefly to deal with a Leukemia diagnosis. Arians was named Coach of the Year after helping the Colts finish 11-5 and qualify for the postseason - a year after they finished with a terrible 2-14 record.

Arians won two Super Bowl championships (in the 2005 and '08 seasons), as part of the Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching staff - the first as the wide receivers coach and the second as an offensive coordinator.

After totaling just one win over the 2015 and '16 seasons combined, the Browns sit at a more respectable 4-6-1. Young quarterback Baker Mayfield is living up to the hype as the No. 1 selection from 2018, while Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward lead a great defense.

What This Means

Williams has done a fine job taking over as coach for the Browns, and it's possible the Browns will remove the the interim tag after the season. But it would be pretty difficult for Cleveland to pass up on the chance to hire Arians, who brought quick turnarounds in both Indianapolis and Arizona.

Either way, the Browns know that one of the game's most brilliant coaches of the past 10 years is happy to come aboard.
