Bully Ray recently explained why he thinks AJ Styles' matches don't main event PPVs despite him being WWE Champion.
It has been less than a week since WWE Super Show-Down and now that the dust has settled, fans likely have a better idea of what they really thought of the show. There were definitely some great matches on the card, but like Greatest Royal Rumble, it did sort of feel like a massive house show airing live on the WWE Network.
When it comes to the best match on the show, most people have a top two. Buddy Murphy winning the Cruiserweight Title, and AJ Styles defending the WWE Championship. Which begs the question, why wasn't the latter the main event? It was almost definitely going to be the best match on the card, yet time and time again Styles, whether he's the champion or not, is looked over when it comes to Superstars WWE chooses to close out shows.
The Miz even made reference to it on SmackDown Live. The A-Lister said that if the champ wants to know why he is never in the main event, he need look no further than the mirror. Bully Ray had a much more logical hypothesis as to why The Phenomenal one always finds himself in the middle of PPV cards, and he shared it on Sirius XM's Busted Open Radio this week.
"When they know there is a match that will steal the show, but they don't want that match to overshadow any other match, they put it in the middle of the show."— SiriusXM Busted Open (@BustedOpenRadio) October 10, 2018

"When they know there is a match that will steal the show, but they don't want that match to overshadow any other match, they put it in the middle of the show," Bully Ray explained. By they, the Hall Of Famer obviously means WWE. He went on to say that he knows it to be true because he experienced it himself in the company alongside his longtime tag team partner D-Von Dudley.
Bully Ray also pointed out that it definitely isn't because WWE doesn't have faith in Styles, otherwise why would they put him on the cover of WWE 2K19? With The Undertaker and Triple H closing out proceedings, he believes WWE didn't want a match with much younger and athletic stars anywhere near it. That's why Styles wasn't only not in the main event slot, but his match versus Samoa Joe took place about halfway through the show.
