On Twitter, Cameron Grimes announced that he’s returning to NXT by retweeting a post from WWE. Best known for his time in Impact Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerilla, where he wrestled as Trevor Lee, Grimes signed with WWE in 2019 after leaving Impact.

The former three-time Impact X Division Champion, one-time TNA World Tag Team Champion with Brian Myers and one-time PWG Tag Team Champion with Andrew Everett was injured by Timothy Thatcher on NXT on December 9. After the show, he announced that he would be out for four to six weeks after undergoing surgery.

His feud with Thatcher began on the November 11 episode of NXT when he interfered in a match between Dexter Lumis and Thatcher in which he wrapped the wrestler’s head in a burlap sack and attacked him. The following week, they faced off in a blindfold match which ended after Grimes accidentally knocked the referee unconscious.

Grimes lost to Lumis in a strap match on December 6 at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. On the December 9 episode of NXT, Grimes was defeated by Tommaso Ciampa and attacked by Thatcher after the match because Grimes questioned Thatcher for being ringside.

There was speculation that Grimes might appear at Royal Rumble, taking one of the open spots for the match and potentially facing off against Keith Lee. In the end, both Grimes and Lee sat out the event. Next week's NXT, the go-home show for TakeOver: Vengeance Day, will feature three Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic matches.

Tommaso Ciampa and Thatcher will face off against The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake), while MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) will take on Legado Del Fantasma's Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. The winning teams will face each other in the men's Dusty Classic finals at TakeOver: Vengeance Day on Sunday, February 14.

In addition, Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell will take on Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon in a women's Dusty Classic semifinal match. The winning team will face off against Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez in the tournament finals at TakeOver: Vengeance Day.
