A number of female WWE Superstars have responded to critics claiming that Divas are damaging the women's revolution in wrestling.

When it comes to the women's revolution currently ongoing and evolving in WWE, it's difficult to really pinpoint exactly where it began. That's because there is no exact starting point. Yes, some say it's the night that Paige debuted and defeated AJ Lee for the Divas' Championship and others will say it's the night Stephanie McMahon called up half of NXT's women, but truth be told those moments were milestones, not beginnings.

What is wrongly assumed or remembered by some fans is that before the likes of Charlotte Flair, Paige, and Sasha Banks, women's wrestlers in WWE were terrible. That simply isn't true. Lita, Trish Stratus, Beth Phoenix, all women who were terrific in-ring performers but simply weren't given the opportunities females in WWE get today. That's why we are seeing so many return, even if it's just for a cameo, to reap some of the rewards for the groundwork they laid years ago.

There's also that term Divas, one that is viewed negatively by most now. That's why Carmella used it to describe herself while feuding with Charlotte. The former Women's Champion knew that it would get a reaction from the fans. However, as pointed out by The Princess of Staten Island herself on Twitter this weekend, she by no means thinks that Divas were any less than the female Superstars of today.

"Every single woman from the past and current roster have made women’s wrestling what it is. EVERYONE is deserving," Carmella wrote on Saturday in response to an article claiming Divas are damaging the evolution of women in WWE. Paige also chipped in on the discussion, pointing out that she was a part of the give Divas a chance movement and that it wasn't that they were having bad matches at the time, but short ones because WWE wouldn't give them more than a few minutes.

If the current revolution in WWE has shown us anything, it's that female wrestlers we may have taken for granted five to ten years ago are actually much better between the ropes than we thought. Yes, we knew about Lita and Stratus, but wrestlers such as Kaitlyn who has returned for the Mae Young Classic, and Nikki Bella who is a better competitor than she is given credit for. There will be a mix of wrestlers and Divas at WWE Evolution next month, and that combination is one of the things that will make the PPV so historic.
