Carmelo Anthony will join the Atlanta Hawks following a single season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 34-year-old, 10-time NBA All-Star will move to his fourth and fifth teams this summer, via trade, along with a 2022 first-round draft pick, with the Hawks sending point guard Dennis Schroder and Mike Muscala the other way.

Anthony isn't expected to remain with Atlanta, though. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who broke the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon, has also reported that the player will be able to join the team of his choice as the Hawks are poised to waive him and make him a free agent.

Anthony will get his entire $27.9 million when the Hawks buy him out.

Muscala, meanwhile, will be heading to the Philadelphia 76ers in a trade for forward Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, but the Thunder will keep Schroder.

OKC have pulled off a masterstroke with this trade, which allows them to free cap space up. The will also see their projected luxury tax bill drop from $150 million to $88 million, having rid themselves of Anthony's almost $27.9 million contract.

They have also saved around $73 million but will also save an additional $11.3 million due to Schroder's $15.5 salary and Luwawu-Cabarrot's $1.5 million cap hit. Their overall salary cost will drop from $159.6 million to $148.7 million.

By bringing Schroder in, the Thunder have definitely improved on squad quality. They now have a very dependable starting point guard on their hands who can back Russell Westbrook up and move the ball around with ease.

The 2022 draft pick Atlanta is due is protected one to 14 and will become two second-round picks if not used in a year.

The three-team trade hasn't been finalized, but league sources have told ESPN that things will be wrapped up in the next few days.

As for Anthony, it is unclear where he will be headed to after Atlanta. But the player has held talks with both the Houston Rockets and the Miami Heat. The Rockets are believed to be frontrunners for the veteran forward's signature, but the lure of potentially playing alongside close friend Dwyane Wade in Miami could also prove a factor in Melo's decision.
