Charlotte Flair says the Nia Jax Royal Rumble moment was neat but that WWE needs to be careful not to overdo intergender interactions with Superstars.

It's been years — not really since the Attitude Era — that WWE has promoted women versus men in matches. There have been Mixed Tag matches, specifically a Mixed Match Challenge special on Facebook Live, but as far as women versus men in a match go, it's an idea WWE hasn't pushed in a long, long time. But, this past week, WWE has done so twice.

At the Royal Rumble on Sunday and then again on Monday at the Raw that followed, female WWE Superstar, Nia Jax, mixed it up with the men. She first entered the Rumble match itself after knocking down R-Truth and stealing his spot, then on Monday, she attacked Dean Ambrose.

The idea has brought forward the debate about whether or not WWE should be pushing this kind of angle and one female superstar isn't sure. Charlotte Flair did admit the moment at the Royal Rumble with Jax was cool and that she added to the match, but said during an interview with 105.3 The Fan radio station, "'Do you want to wrestle the guys?' I'm like, no, because I just think it's harder storytelling-wise." She added, "But I thought Nia looked like a star and killed it on Sunday, and she added a lot to the men's Rumble. She really did."

But, she also made sure to add, "...but I don't think it's something that should be every week. I think it's something that has to be once every year, a novelty. Or else it takes away from the special uniqueness of it. I don't want to see that every week. I'm sorry, I don't."

What This Means

Charlotte may not speak for every woman in WWE when she makes these comments, but it raises an interesting question. With such a heavy focus on the "evolution" for women's wrestling, WWE has really stepped out of that light on a couple of occasions recently. First, they offered up Mandy Rose in a love triangle/affair angle with Jimmy Uso and now Jax is challenging the men. Is this where WWE should be going?
