Last season's FA Cup winners Chelsea have unveiled their first signing of the summer.

After they appointed former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as their new boss on Saturday, the Blues also brought in Brazil-born Italy international Jorginho on a five-year deal from I Partenopei.

"Jorginho has followed Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to Chelsea and in doing so becomes our first signing of the summer," the club said in a statement via their official website.

"He has signed a five-year contract and will wear the no.5 shirt."

The 26-year-old playmaker joined Napoli from Verona in 2014 and has since gone on to become one of the best passers of the ball in Italy's Serie A. Playing in Sarri's system has also brought the best out of him and Chelsea will be hoping that the pair can wield the same sort of influence in their team next season.

While the Blues didn't reveal a transfer fee, the player moved from Napoli for the sum of £53 million.

"I am absolutely ecstatic to be here at Chelsea," he said after penning his deal on Saturday. "It is not easy to become part of such a big team so I am very, very happy. I am excited to play in such an intense league, for a team that gives everything to play and win."

"We are delighted Jorginho has chosen to join Chelsea," Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added.

"He was one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe and will become an important member of the playing squad. He has demonstrated his quality working under Maurizio Sarri and we are convinced his signing will help bring further success to Stamford Bridge."

Meanwhile, Chelsea's rivals Manchester City is allegedly fuming over Jorginho's move to London. The Premier League champions already agreed to a deal to bring the midfielder to the Etihad this summer, but the Blues swooped in with a better offer and have now got the player on their books.

According to reports, City manager Pep Guardiola and other officials at the club believe that the player was "bullied" into joining Chelsea, with Napoli threatening to keep him benched for the remaining two years of his contract if he didn't sign for the Blues.

Whether or not this is so, Chelsea landed themselves a quality midfielder and have definitely won fans back over with this immense signing. They are understood to still be chasing more players, with Gonzalo Higuain, Daniele Rugani and Aleksandr Golovin all reported as being targets for the Stamford Bridge side.
