Chris Bosh has missed each of the last two seasons due to a career-threatening blood clot condition, and the 34-year-old continues to hold out hope of returning to the game some day.

Though Bosh hasn't played an NBA game in almost three years now, he's still racking up the paychecks from the Miami Heat - who bought him out during the 2016-17 season. Per Basketball Reference, Bosh's 2018-19 salary of $26,837,720 makes him the 16th highest paid player in the NBA right now.

That puts Bosh ahead of major superstars such as Joel Embiid, Anthony Davis, Kevin Love and Kawhi Leonard. The league allowed Miami to buy out Bosh's contract without having any of it count against their cap. Bosh was formally waived by the Heat in the 2017 offseason, and he continues to train in hopes of playing basketball again.

Bosh joined the Heat in the 2010 offseason, aligning himself with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. The trio led Miami to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances, and they won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

After James announced his plans to leave Miami and re-join the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bosh opted to stay in South Beach, signing a five-year deal worth $118 million. His contract comes off the books after this season.

Bosh is a shoe-in for the Basketball Hall of Fame, regardless of whether or not he plays again. He's an 11-time All-Star with two championship rings and career averages of 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and two assists per game.

Realistically, it's unlikely Bosh will play again. He turns 35 in March, hasn't played in almost three years and could simply decide it's better for his health to stay out of basketball.

Bosh will rack up one more big paycheck in 2018-19, then we shouldn't be surprised if he announced his retirement soon. It just seems unlikely for him to keep on playing, given his age and the situation.
