Chris Jericho Cruise: How WWE's Refusal To Join Caused Partnership With ROH

With recent rumors of Chris Jericho going to Impact and his lack of appearances for WWE, he opened up about the reasons WWE shot down his cruise idea and his future working with non-WWE promotions.

Chris Jericho was recently a guest on The Jim Ross Report with WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross. During that interview, they spoke Jericho's upcoming Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager At Sea, if it was difficult to get NJPW, Impact Wrestling, and Ring Of Honor to work together on the project, and why WWE wasn't involved.

Jericho said he approached WWE with his idea for the cruise before anyone else but always had it in the back of his mind they'd say no. Jericho wanted NXT guys but figured, "if Vince [McMahon] wants to do a cruise, he doesn't need Chris Jericho to do a cruise, he'll do it himself." He was right as WWE turned down his offer.

But, after making sure he gave WWE at least the courtesy to take their stance first, Jericho said after they, "decided not to go for it, I think Ring Of Honor agreed 10 minutes later."

Once ROH got involved, Jericho said, Don Callis, who is also a commentator for NJPW and an executive for Impact, pitched him the idea of having ROH versus Impact on the Jericruise. Once that idea was in motion, Jericho said it wasn't hard to get the promotions to work together.

The story, while perhaps not new, speaks loudly to rumors of Jericho's current status with WWE. Rumors that Jericho might pop up in Impact wrestling after spending some time in NJPW have the wrestling Internet community abuzz. Is this a sign that Jericho is changing his loyalties? After being shot down by WWE and seeing tremendous success wrestling outside WWE, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Jericho said, "I think if you're working outside of the Vince [McMahon] universe, why not band together? Like Ring Of Honor, or Impact, or New Japan, or PROGRESS, or whoever you want to throw in the mix?" He added, that no one company will ever be bigger than WWE, "so why not have a couple of special matches when you're working together to continue the buzz?"
