WWE acted fast when Chris Jericho revealed he had signed for AEW, but the veteran understands why the company did what it did.

It might surprise you to hear that it has only been a little more than a week since All Elite Wrestling's rally in Jacksonville. The new promotion and the announcements it made have been discussed and picked apart so much that it almost feels like AEW has been around for years. In reality, the promotion hasn't even had its first show yet.

When it does, we will get to see Chris Jericho compete for yet another promotion. A few years ago, most fans would have assumed that Y2J would see out his career with WWE. Not the case. Since then he has competed numerous times for New Japan, run his own cruise in conjunction with Ring Of Honor, and has now signed with AEW.

One of the biggest talking points about Jericho signing with AEW has been WWE's reaction to the news. Just hours after the announcement, SmackDown Live aired and Y2J had already been removed from the show's opening signature. He had also been quickly moved to the alumni section on WWE.com. However, Jericho has revealed that he spoke with Vince McMahon about his plans and also understands WWE's actions.

The nine-time Intercontinental Champion told all about signing for AEW on his podcast, Talk Is Jericho. "I get that. It doesn’t bother me at all it’s the way it should be," Jericho told listeners about being removed from WWE's opening video package. "We can all hold our heads up high and we did things the way it should be. No ill feelings, no ill will," he went on to say.

Jericho also discussed AEW's intentions when it comes to WWE. As iterated by others involved with the new promotion, their goal is not to beat or even compete with WWE. All they want to do is provide an alternative. That's the key in today's climate. There is no competing with WWE. If Impact Wrestling had the same mindset back in 2002, it might be in a better place than it is today.
