There was a rumor going around online that Chris Jericho will retire this week, and it seems like it was news to even Y2J himself.

There are some wrestlers, especially in the present day, that seem to defy time and continue to perform at the top of their game into their forties, and sometimes, their fifties. Superstars like John Cena and AJ Styles who are as good today as they have ever been despite being over 40. Perhaps the best example of a wrestler remaining great despite his age though is Chris Jericho.

Y2J turned 47 last year but shows no sign of stopping any time soon. In January this year, Jericho wrestled what many have lauded the best match of his career to date against Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Plus, he will return to WWE later this week as the company head to Saudi Arabia for the Greatest Royal Rumble. While he won't be in the casket match Jericho will be in the 50 man Royal Rumble.

Despite how well his match with Omega went and his inclusion in this week's Royal Rumble match, there were rumors on social media this past weekend that he was getting set to retire. Many fans got wind of the "news" and were using the hashtag #ThankYouY2J. Jericho selected one twee, in particular,r to reply to that suggested he would be on Raw this week to announce his retirement.

A fan tweeted "so sad to hear that Chris Jericho is announcing his retirement tomorrow night" o which Y2J replied "Ummmm ok?" Clearly, his own retirement is news to the man himself and it seems highly unlikely that he will be retiring on Raw tonight. Jericho has got a lot left in his tank yet. The original tweet from the fan has since been deleted but you can check it out above.

How rumors like this begin is unclear. Someone may have been trying to start a non-existent news story, perhaps somebody got the wrong end of the stick, it could even be a fan using the hashtag above and the right people seeing it so that it spread. Considering he has already been booked for the show in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this Friday though, tonight would be a very inopportune time for him to choose to retire.
