The Cleveland Cavaliers have lost center Tristan Thompson for the next two to four weeks following his awkward landing during Monday night's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Thompson exited the match in the third quarter after coming down on Malcolm Brogdon's foot and he has since been diagnosed with a sprained foot.

The team had an MRI done on the center to confirm the above, and they have announced that he could miss up to a month's action.

"Cavaliers forward/center Tristan Thompson will miss approximately 2-4 weeks with a left foot sprain," the Cavs reported via their official website.

"Thompson was injured on December 10 at Milwaukee late in the third quarter and did not return to action. Additional evaluation and an MRI on December 11 at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health confirmed the sprain. He will now undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation. His status will be updated as appropriate."

Thompson has played 27 games for the Cavs this season and is averaging 12.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per contest.

He has been one of their most important players in the last few years and was one of the main contributors in their run to the title two years ago.

What This Means

The 6-21 Cavaliers are already without All-Star forward Kevin Love, who could be out until next month following his toe surgery. He could return around the same time as Thompson but, of course, by then, it will be way too late for a meaningful upturn.

Not that the Cavs mind, though - they're now in the business of collecting draft picks and they should be pretty high up the lottery come next summer. In the meantime, fans can enjoy having a friendly face in Matthew Dellavedova back in town.
