Cody Rhodes delivered an emotional promo leading up to Double or Nothing and during the promo took shots at WWE, the Attitude Era, and HHH.

As AEW's Double or Nothing event draws closer, the company keeps releasing episodes of Road to Double or Nothing. The videos are meant to hype the PPV but in this week's video, AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes used the four minutes to not only hype his upcoming match against newly AEW acquired Dustin Rhodes; but at the same time, took some shots at a few other notable people.

Calling this match more than just brother vs. brother, Cody explained, "This match is 'generation vs. generation,' I am not here to kill Dustin Rhodes. I'm here to kill the Attitude Era."

Cody called himself the least "Rhodes of all the Rhodes" but he was given a pair of boots and has the basics. While Dustin is the brother who was expected to do great things, he is the brother who is changing the world of wrestling and killing the Attitude Era while representing the men and women of AEW, many of whom are doing things WWE can't touch. Proving AEW is a much better product is just one of the many things he intends to do as part of the legacy he leaves behind.

What This Means

As part of this emotional and extremely well-delivered promo, Cody explained, "My whole class of peers has been compared to these gilded late 90s through the early 2000s for over a decade and it's an utter shame." He referenced CM Punk and The Rock and subtly alluded to the "pissant" comment Triple H made about AEW at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony the night before WrestleMania 35.

As AEW does, Cody has a lot to prove. He's going to do his talking at Double or Nothing on May 25, 2019, by wiping out a brother he loves but doing so for the greater good. Saying performers like his brother paved the way, they did so by putting up "speed markers at 35 because you're terrified of us putting the f---ing foot down on the pedal."
