If Cody Rhodes does nothing else in his professional wrestling career, he has proved one thing. Without a shadow of a doubt, there is life as a pro-wrestler outside WWE. He's walked away from the show, he's still succeeded and if the story he's sharing with The Ringer is any indication (which include some choice words for Triple H), he may likely never come back.

Rhodes has become famous for leaving WWE and a guaranteed six-figure paycheck to pursue wrestling outside the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. He was a legacy behind his father "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes and, if he wanted it, had a job for life. When he left, many thought he was being rash, overreacting and foolish. The reality was, he had confidence in himself and he knew that what he wanted to achieve and the legacy he wanted to create had to be done outside the walls of Vince McMahon and Triple H's company.

After Cody's father, Dusty Rhodes, had passed away, WWE wanted him to return and once again portray the Stardust character Cody had learned to despise because it had no future. It was character Cody had put his full effort into and at times, it helped him deal with some of the stresses of his father passing, but it wasn't where he was going to leave his mark in the business. His legacy would be as Cody Rhodes, but WWE wasn't interested.

He pitched over and over the idea of dropping the facepaint and coming up with new ideas, none of which WWE would seriously consider. In one instance, while Cody was trying to talk with creative about an idea, a writer for WWE pretended to make notes, typing feverishly into his laptop. Only, Cody knew the laptop wasn't turned on. That was it for the wrestler formerly known as Stardust.

When Triple H asked him to play a lesser role in WWE and stop shooting so high, Cody had reached his breaking point. “I’m not putting on that f---ing suit again unless I’m doing it to tell the story of me coming back as Cody Rhodes,” Cody told Triple H. It didn't matter and Triple H didn't budge. Two weeks later, Cody was announcing he was leaving WWE.

Since his departure, Cody has seen unbelievable success. He was given Ring of Honor's largest-ever contract and he's in the process of producing his own wrestling show entitled "All In". The plan is to hold a live wrestling event with his own money and sell out a 10K-plus arena. It's never been done but if Cody's previous experiences tell him anything, he's not to be underestimated.
