Cody Rhodes's short run as the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion has come to an end following his loss to Nick Aldis over the weekend.

One of the biggest and best moments at last month's All In was Cody Rhodes winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title. A championship his father held on a number of occasions, it was an emotional moment watching the second generation wrestler follow in Dusty's footsteps. Rhodes went through a tough battle with Nick Aldis to win the championship.

As with most title changes, a rematch was booked. A second battle between Rhodes and Aldis at the NWA's 70th-anniversary show, which took place this past weekend. A big event, and one that most older wrestling fans never thought they'd see. The NWA was once a massive brand, however, during the 1990s and 2000s, it basically disappeared. That was until it was revived over the last couple of years.

Back to the rematch between Aldis and Rhodes, and it seems we have a new champion. The two familiar foes battled in a two out of three falls match. The former champion, and now new and two-time champion, defeated Rhodes two falls to one. As you can see from the GIF below courtesy of NWA's Twitter, the Brit rolled up Rhodes for the final fall.

What's interesting is something that flies right in the face of what we said above. While Aldis naturally got a title rematch, as most champions do, it would appear for right now at least that Rhodes will not. It was announced before the match that the next challenger for the NWA Title will be Blue Demon Jr. When exactly the legendary luchador will have his chance has not yet been announced.

In hindsight, it probably isn't that much of a surprise that Rhodes' run with the NWA Championship was a short one. He is a very busy man and might not be able to commit to the NWA and it's title in the way that it needs to be right now. What he has done during his month and a half long reign is raise the stock of the title and its promotion. Losing it has also added fuel to speculation that he and other members of the Bullet Club could be headed for WWE.
