Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov: Brawl Ensues After UFC 229 Title Change

What a night in the UFC! It was a historic night for good and bad reasons. UFC 229 took place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The main event was the 26-0 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor (21-3-0), but a brawl that took place after the fight is what got people talking.

The Aftermath

What ensued following the fight was absolute mayhem. The 30-year old Russian literally dominated Conor McGregor from start to finish. Just like he's done to most of his opponents, he controlled the ground game. Nurmagomedov stayed undefeated and defeated McGregor via submission with a rear naked choke in round four. Nurmagomedov retained his UFC lightweight championship.

In what should have been a moment full of joy, excitement, and gratitude turned into a black eye moment for the UFC. Following the victory,  Nurmagomedov climbed the cage and charged a member of McGregor’s team.

And the mayhem continues...

Nurmagomedov went after McGregor’s jiu-jitsu coach, Dillon Danis, which triggered an ugly scene. Many security guards were called to ring to straighten the chaos out. Several members of Nurmagamedov’s team then entered the cage and sucker punched McGregor following the fight.

It was a pro-McGregor crowd so it was already bad enough their hero lost. The arena was filled with electric boos from all the mayhem caused by Nurmagomedov's team. The scene got so bad that both combatants didn't even stay inside the octagon for the official decision.

UFC President Dana White refused to even crown the undefeated lightweight the title belt as the UFC head feared the crowd would erupt if he put the belt on him

However, as White feared, fans would throw their drinks and any garbage they could find and threw it at the champion. Ring announcer Bruce Buffer would make the official announcement after both fighters left. In a slew of interviews, White said three Nurmagomedov team members have been arrested.

Moving Forward

An awesome and dominant victory by the undefeated Nurmagomedov is now accompanied by people wondering his character and self-control. Does trash talk and psychology play a factor? Of course, it does. However, the UFC has rules. Being barbaric especially after a match were fighters train and should be safe, makes the UFC look like a streetfighting instead of a section match. Now, what kind of answers can we expect after the mayhem? What kind of punishments or ramifications will be hammered down? Are U.S. visas and or green cards revoked? Only time will tell.

McGregor says he wants a rematch.
