The Dallas Cowboys find themselves sitting at top of the NFC East division after they were written off just weeks ago.

Thanks to a three-game winning streak, the Cowboys now own a record of 6-5. With their most recent win coming on Thanksgiving, against the then division-leading Washington Redskins.

The Cowboys were able to get the win on Turkey Day, by a score of 31 to 23. They now own the tie-breaker over the Redskins. Which puts the Cowboys in front of them for the division lead.

One of the biggest reasons the Cowboys have been able to rattle off three straight wins is thanks to the play of running back Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke has recently stepped up in a massive way for the Cowboys.

He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the Cowboys' last three games. He has also recorded a rushing touchdown in each of those last three games as well. The Cowboys run the majority of their offense through Elliott and that massive O-line.

Which is why it has been so important for him to perform the best he has in these last three games. The Cowboys have also bought into the trend of involving their running backs in the passing game, which has also played a significant role in adding more variety into the offensive playbook.

In doing so, this has opened up the running game for Elliott. With him averaging at least five receptions in his last three games, it has kept opposing defenses on their toes when attempting to defend against him.

Dak Prescott along with Elliott has been performing at a higher level during their three-game winning streak. His completion percentage has been at the highest its been all season long.

He has had a completion percentage of over 70% in two of the last three games. While the one game he didn't record 70%, his percentage for the game was 68%. Which means even though he didn't record a completion percentage of at least 70%, Elliott was able to step up and lead the team to victory.

With just five games remaining, the Cowboys have a very favorable schedule. They play three of those five games at home. Which means they will have a very good chance of sustaining this success and holding onto the division.

What This Means

The Cowboys take on the New Orleans Saints next Thursday. However, the game does take place in Dallas. Where the Cowboys have a record of 4-1 this season. But, the Saints are arguably one of the best teams in the NFL.

So with all of this put together, this is making for a massive game for the Cowboys. If the Cowboys can somehow scratch out a win against the Saints, they will be in a great position to win the NFC North division.
