Daniel Bryan looked past the Greatest Royal Rumble this Friday so that he could set up a match between himself and Big Cass at Backlash.

Even though it has only been a little more than a month since Daniel Bryan was cleared to return to in-ring action, it already feels like he never left. The former World Champion made his triumphant return at WrestleMania 34 and has competed in two more matches since then. Unfortunately though, following his WrestleMania win, Bryan hasn't exactly had the best of luck.

On the SmackDown Live After WrestleMania, Bryan went one on one with AJ Styles in what was an unmitigated dream match. Sadly, we don't know which of the two world-class competitors is better as Shinsuke Nakamura interrupted the match. Then last week, while competing in tag team action, Big Cass made an unexpected return and laid Bryan out with a massive big boot.

Bryan's run of bad luck continued into this week's SmackDown Live too, and he didn't even have a match. Following the opening segment of the show, the cameras cut backstage to find Bryan being helped up by officials following an attack. The attack happened immediately after Big Cass had taken Bryan's place on an edition of Miz TV taking place in the ring.

Although Bryan didn't see his attacker, he naturally believes that Cass was the one who did the damage, especially since the seven-footer is the one who stole his place on Miz TV. That's why Bryan went to SmackDown Live General Manager, Paige and requested a match with Cass at Backlash. Paige granted his request, and the match has been made official. Bryan also reassured the WWE Universe that he will be fit in time to compete in the Greatest Royal Rumble match this Friday.

A match against Big Cass likely wasn't one that made the list of dream bouts for most fans when Bryan was cleared to wrestle for WWE last month. Not every match can be a dream match though, and this may be the perfect comeback rivalry for both men. Plus, it will be the perfect opportunity for Bryan to defeat a man who is a lot taller than him and remind us all of how good he is no matter his opponent.
