WWE Champion Daniel Bryan shares the same views with many disgruntled fans when it comes to how the company books its top babyfaces.

Appearing on the State of Combat podcast (h/t Adam Silverstein of CBS Sports), Bryan talked about the best way to book and build up a babyface. The four-time WWE Champion even went as far as to explaining why the WWE sometimes fails in their approach to developing faces accordingly.

"Presenting those kind of characters, it's still a white-meat babyface character in that sort of sense," Bryan said. "But you have to present it properly. I don't think it's impossible, I just think a lot of times we just don't present it in the best way possible."

Take a look at a large portion of the WWE's babyfaces in today's product, and it's hard to disagree with Bryan. Nobody needs to be reminded about Roman Reigns' controversial babyface push, which has drew a lot more criticism and heat over the year.

Of course, Reigns isn't the only big-named star who has struggled to get over with the fans - despite a major push. Bayley (former Raw Women's Champion), Asuka, Dean Ambrose and Bobby Roode are among the other superstars who didn't get as much steam and momentum as fans was aiming for.

In Bryan's case, he was the long-time lovable underdog story during his first run as an in-ring performer for WWE. He returned to the ring after a three-year hiatus in 2018, after receiving medical clearance from doctors.

Though Bryan's popularity with the fans remained strong, his recent heel turn has done plenty of wonders as well. Bryan is embroiled in a feud with A.J. Styles, which has earned heavy praise from wrestling fans and pundits.

Back in December, the McMahons and Triple H came out during an episode of Raw and promised to bring new changes in 2019. They wouldn't specify that exactly those changes would be, but perhaps they'll include a new direction in forming babyfaces.

What This Means

Bryan is one of the most beloved and successful babyfaces in the history of wrestling, so the man knows a thing or two about what it takes to get over with the crowd. Hopefully, WWE will look at what he said and use that as a starting point for building up new babyfaces properly in the future.
