SmackDown Live general manager Daniel Bryan wasn't present at Sunday's Fastlane pay-per-view, and it cost both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn the chance at becoming the new WWE Champion.

During the six-pack challenge, both Owens and Zayn were in position to hit a three-count pinfall for the victory. However, commissioner Shane McMahon interfered and stopped both of his rivals from securing the victory.

AJ Styles would then pin Owens to win the title, and the latter took to Twitter after the match:

Unfortunately for Owens and Zayn, Bryan wasn't there to maintain order because he had to attend a cousin's wedding, as Brie Bella shared this on Instagram:

Though Bryan wasn't able to stop Shane O'Mac from his evil deeds, he will get the chance to confront the commissioner on Tuesday. It promises to be an entertaining segment, as the McMahon beef with Owens, Zayn and Bryan continues to take new turns and twists on a weekly basis.

Shane McMahon's feud with Owens dates back to last August, when Owens felt screwed after losing a United States Championship match to Styles. The rivalry took a major turn at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, when Zayn (Owens' long-time on-screen rival), came out and helped K.O. pin Shane O'Mac.

With Styles retaining his championship, he'll face Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania 34. That leaves the door open for McMahon to maintain his feud with Owens and Zayn, though much of the WWE Universe is curious to see what Bryan's further involvement will be - and if he'll go toe-to-toe with Shane in the ring.

WrestleMania 34 is now just four weeks away, but there have only been a handful of matches confirmed for the card. Perhaps this week's episode of SmackDown Live will offer a hint as to what will go down between McMahon, Bryan, Owens and Zayn.
