Backstage News On Daniel Bryan’s Opponent For WrestleMania 35

A large portion of the main event matches for WrestleMania 35 have already been set, but there haven't been many hints on a challenger for Daniel Bryan and his WWE Championship.

We may finally have an answer now, though. According to Bleacher Report's Jeremy Botter, the plan is for Bryan to face a returning Kevin Owens at WrestleMania. The latter announced last week that he would be back to action in a month, having been sidelined since October after undergoing double knee surgery.

It has been rumored aplenty that Owens would be competing on the Grandest Stage of Them All, though his opponent was never mentioned. Bryan is in need of a new foe after finishing his feud with A.J. Styles, and with Owens emphasizing that he didn't know which brand he would move to yet, everything lines up for him to challenge the WWE Champion at WrestleMania.

Seth Rollins won the men's Royal Rumble and decided to challenge for Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship. That left few possible candidates on the SmackDown Live brand to engage in a feud with Bryan. But Owens is a main event-worthy superstar, and bringing him back to compete for Bryan's WWE Championship makes all the sense in the world here.

Owens last feuded with Bobby Lashley while on the Monday Night Raw brand. He was written off of television after Lashley "injured" him in storyline by attacking Owens' bad knees.

Interestlingly, Owens and Zayn competed against Bryan and Shane McMahon in a tag team match at WrestleMania last year. Bryan and Shane O'Mac won the match, and per its stipulation, Owens and Zayn were fired from SmackDown and later moved to Raw. This time, the stakes will be much different with Owens and Bryan clashing on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

What This Means

Well, know we can mark down another main event match that's set for WrestleMania 35. Bryan pulled off the shocking heel turn back in November, while Owens is about to turn babyface for the first time on the main roster. This match has the chance to really steal the show, given how popular both superstar are right now.
