At the end of January, WWE confirmed reports and revealed in a statement that Dean Ambrose had decided to leave the company, when his contract expires after WrestleMania 35.

But with Roman Reigns returning last week, there were reports going around that he would be able to convince his long-time friend and Shield counterpart to stay with the WWE after all.

Well, Ambrose and Shield fans will be unhappy to hear the latest update. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Cageside Seats), Ambrose is still planning to leave once his deal expires.

That said, it should be noted that WWE was advertising Ambrose for shows in May - including the company's upcoming European tour. After WrestlingInc.com pointed this out - this hinting that Ambrose may stay on past WrestleMania - WWE removed him from the ads.

So take your guess what the real plans are for the former WWE Champion. Even if he isn't going to sign a new contract with the WWE, you do wonder when his actual last appearance will be with the promotion. Right now, it seems like he might end up staying past WrestleMania, so Fastlane likely won't be the last time we see The Shield wrestle together.

Pro Wrestling Torch was first to report that Ambrose was on his way out of the company, with one unnamed superstar saying "The Lunatic" had grown tired of portraying a "hokey" gimmick. PWInsider.com later reported that Ambrose rejected a five-year deal that would have paid him seven figures annually.

Even though Reigns has made a quick and remarkable recovery after having to undergo treatment for Leukemia, it seems like Ambrose has remained firm on his decision to leave. If that's still the case, fans can only ask that he'goes out on a high note.

What This Means

All of these reports suggest different things with Ambrose. At the end of the day, it's anybody's guess right now what he has in mind. For all we know, Ambrose is still considering both options. Right now, however, the early indictors are he is planning to leave the WWE.
