The Dallas Mavericks are signing former Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan to a one-year deal worth $24.1 million, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Jordan, 29, opted out of his 2018-19 option with the Clippers, which was set to be $24.1 million. He had been linked to the Mavericks for quite some time, and now the two-time NBA rebounding leader gets his wish.

And with that, Jordan's storied 10-year tenure with the Clippers come to an end, and it was certainly quite a journey. He surpassed expectations as the 35th overall pick in 2008, morphing into one of the NBA's top centers, elite rebounders and defensive players.

Jordan and the Clippers reached the NBA Playoffs six years in a row from 2012-17, which included five 50-win seasons. However, the Clippers were consistent disappointments in the postseason, only winning three series and failing to advance past the second round.

The Clippers began their rebuild by trading Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets last year. They dealt away superstar Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline, signaling that they were ready to blow up the roster. Guard Austin Rivers was dealt to the Washington Wizards this week for center Marcin Gortat, who now fills in for Jordan.

The 2016 Olympic gold medalist has averaged 9.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, but his stats have been getting significantly better through the last four years. He now joins a Mavericks team that landed prized Slovenian prospect, Luka Doncic, at the NBA draft.

After two consecutive losing seasons, the Mavericks look ready to make a run at a playoff spot in the rapidly improving Western Conference. Jordan, Doncic and Wesley Matthews should provide a fine group as Dallas prepares for the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.
