Last week, Alberto El Patron (formally known as Alberto Del Rio in WWE), was fired by Impact Wrestling after failing to appear at a Lucha Underground event in New Orleans and a Wrestlecon autograph session.

El Patron's history with leaving major wrestling promotions has been well-documented, having left the WWE under two circumstances after clashing with company officials. Now, he's out of Impact Wrestling after a brief but somewhat successful tenure.

But El Patron did an interview with Steven Muehlhausen of Sporting News, and explained why he no-showed Lucha Underground:

"I had a family situation that I needed to attend (to). As you know, my family, my kids are my priority. The situation was involving them and that’s why I decided to take care of business and take care of my family situation.

And that’s all that happened. And that comes to what I was just saying to you. I know people wanted to know absolutely everything. This only concerns my family: my parents, my sister, myself and my kids. And that’s the way it’s going to stay."

El Patron also added that he was "fine," with Impact's decision, and once again emphasized that he plans "on leaving the pro wrestling business in the next year."

There have been a lot of dramatic things going on in El Patron's over the past two years. His wife (with whom El Patron had three children), Angela Velkei filed for divorce in 2016 - and both parties are in a battle for custody of the kids.

He was also in a relationship with current SmackDown Live general manager Paige, and they got engaged in Oct. 2016. But the two split a year later, with El Patron saying that they were travelling and working different schedules, thus unable to maintain their long-distance relationship.

With El Patron planning to leave the wrestling industry soon, it's unknown if he'll wrestle any matches for other promotions, or if he's done for good. On top of that, it's anybody's guess what he'll do once El Patron ends a storied career in the ring.
