Apparently, many teams were a little more than hesitant to sign DeMarcus Cousins

This summer, DeMarcus Cousins signed a one-year, $5.3 million contract with the Golden State Warriors. While the current champions acquisition caused distress among most NBA fans, the Boogie was relieved after receiving no previous offers from the rest of the teams in the league. Not even his former team, the Pelicans, in which he averaged 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists last season. The reason was an apparent “no Cousins policy.”

The Knicks center Enes Kanter declared via The Herd, that he heard that some teams have a no-cousins policy. DeMarcus Cousins is one of the most talented big men in the league. However, his bad reputation might have had something to do with his lack of offers this offseason, besides his Achilles tendon injury that he suffered during the last playoffs.

The former Pelicans player is a one in a kind superstar with an attitude on and off the court and this is not a Westbrook-type of attitude who messes up with the rivals and teammates. The Boogie has had problems with everyone in the league, teammates, adversaries, coaches, media, and even fans.

In 2016, the four-time NBA All-Star confronted the Sacramento Bee columnist, Andy Furrillo, in the locker room for writing about his brother. Last season, he was fined with $25,000 for yelling an obscenity at a fan. While playing for Sacramento a video of him yelling and heatedly gesturing with his arm at coach George Karl in the huddle became viral, where he had a dysfunctional relationship with his teammates as well. And is just a matter of typing “Cousins fights” on YouTube to see all his fights compilations against other players.

Certainly, the 27-year-old player must have felt stunned after not receiving any offers, which is understandable. The only center who scored more than him last season was his former teammate Anthony Davis and only two guys rebounded more than him. “I was shocked. I didn’t believe it” Cousins said to The Undefeated “It was very insulting to not receive an offer.”

It sounds utterly logical that most teams would not want a player like the Boogie. After all, this is a guy who will mess up with the team chemistry; he is hard to coach and to play with. Nevertheless, the Warriors accepted the challenge. Now it’s time for DeMarcus Cousins to prove the league he can improve his behavior on and off the court. Or at least if he wants to get a better deal next year.
