Ten years ago, Derrick Rose was the NBA Rookie of the Year and last night scored 50-points, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz. And after the game rose was visibly emotional.

When Rose entered the league as the number one draft choice of the Chicago Bulls his future looked bright — and then he went on to win Rookie of the Year 2009 and became the youngest ever NBA MVP in 2011 t the age of 22. But major knee injuries slowed him down and caused him to miss lots of time, including the entire 2012-2013 season.

In 2016, Rose was traded to the New York Knicks, where he lasted one season and then went and joined the Cleveland Cavaliers last season for what would end up being LeBron James' final year with the team. However, he has never really been what he was in those first years with the Bulls and had been written off by many NBA people and fans. Until last night. And there was no holding back the emotions he was feeling in the post-game on-court interview.

Rose became the fourth player in the NBA to score 50 or more points this season, including Steph Curry who dropped 51 last week and Blake Griffin scored 50 just a few days before that and Klay Thompson who scored 52 a couple days ago. and while Curry's 51 came in a blowout win, Rose's team—like Griffin's—needed pretty much all of his 50 points to secure the victory.

With 30 seconds left in the game, Rose put the Timberwolves up by one point and brought his game total to 48 points. Then, with just under 14 seconds left to go rose drained two free throws, which got him his 50 points and gave his team a three-point lead — which would be how the game would end.

It was a big moment for a player who was—at one time—regarded as the next big thing in the NBA and has had to work hard to even get back to where he is now and prove himself. But, to paraphrase LL Cool J, let's not call this a comeback just yet. It's just one game. But it was a great game and with Rose being in the best health he has been in in years, there could be more great games to come for the one-time MVP!
