Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson hasn't dazzled as much in 2018 compared to his rookie season, but blame shall not fall on the shoulders of the Clemson product.

Per Kevin Patra of NFL.com, Watson has been sacked a whopping 17 times through the first four games of 2018, which only trails Buffalo Bills rookie Josh Allen. Patra also cited Next Gen Stats, which says that Watson has been pressured on 34.5 percent of his dropbacks.

Keep in mind how athletic and quick Watson is as moving around in the pocket, and it makes the 17 sacks really all the more scary. This is a man coming off a torn ACL injury that ruined a likely Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

How much more Watson can take is anybody's guess, but the fact he's on pace to be sacked 68 times (per Patra), should terrify Houston fans. Head coach Bill O'Brien and offensive coordinator George Godsey better figure something out. And fast.

Former Texans quarterback David Carr holds the record for most sacks taken in a season, with 76 in the team's inaugural 2002 campaign. Randall Cunningham comes in at second with 72 sacks in 1986. Carr's 68 sacks taken in 2005 came in at third-most, and Watson just might tie that amount by season's end.

The Texans were a trendy pick to make the playoffs in 2018, but they sit at a mere 1-3 record - in a tie with the Indianapolis Colts for last in the AFC South. And even in their lone victory (against the Colts), Houston needed Indy to turn the ball over on downs near midfield to eventually set up the game-winning field goal.

Watson is doing everything he can to keep the Texans going, even with a wretched offensive line and little help from the defense. If the Texans can't find a way to protect their star quarterback down the stretch, Watson simply won't return to his 2017 form.
