There have been conflicting reports about Dolph Ziggler's contract status with the WWE, but the two-time World Heavyweight Champion recently told Nathan Ryan of Fox Sports that he hasn't signed a new deal.

As it turns out, this wasn't a ploy on Ziggler's end. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported that Ziggler hasn't signed a new one, and his current contract is set to expire in the summer.

With that, his future with the WWE immediately becomes unclear. It's no kept secret that Ziggler has been frustrated with the creative team, even admitting to Edge and Christian that he wanted to leave WWE. Nonetheless, the company convinced him to sign a new contract, but that turned out to be a short-term pact.

Despite incredible in-ring talents and solid microphone skills, Ziggler has been out of the main event picture for a while, and the creative team has kept trying different gimmicks for him. From the failed Spirit Squad stable to "Perfection" to mocking the entrances of WWE legends, Ziggler has had to go through many different characters, and most of them haven't worked out in the slightest.

Ziggler was moved to the Raw brand in the Superstar Shake-Up earlier this week, and it's possible it's his and the WWE's last hope of trying to make something work. Ziggler attacked Titus Worldwide, along with Drew McIntyre - who came up from the NXT brand and will begin his second reign on the main roster with WWE.

One of the longest tenured WWE superstars and most successful mid-card performers in recent memory, Ziggler has enjoyed a strong run that has seen five Intercontinental Championship reigns and two United States Championships, along with the aforementioned pair of World titles.

At this point, it's anybody's guess as to whether or not Ziggler stays in the WWE. We know he's been unsatisfied in the company for a while, but perhaps an alliance with McIntyre is all that's needed to have Ziggler sign a new deal.
