For Drake Maverick, the search for the 24/7 Champion continued after SmackDown Live went off the air.
Monday night on Raw, Mick Foley unveiled WWE's newest championship. The 24/7 Title. It is effectively the Hardcore Title without the weapons and the name. The title's holder always needs to be on the lookout since as long as a referee is present, they can lose the championship. It has already changed hands twice since being introduced.
Titus O'Neil was the first 24/7 Champion. He achieved that by being the first to get to it. O'Neil's reigns lasted just seconds as he was quickly rolled up by Robert Roode. Roode then spent Raw running from a crowd of rowdy wrestlers. At the end of the night, R-Truth tricked him and took the title from him. At the time of typing this, Truth is still champion.
Truth decided to don a disguise for SmackDown Live. However, he was eventually spotted and the rowdy crowd's pursuit of the title resumed. The man who seems most intent on becoming 24/7 Champion is Drake Maverick. The 205 Live GM appears to be positively desperate to pin Truth and become the title's fourth holder. So much so that he continued to chase him after Tuesday's show went off the air.
Annoyingly for Maverick, he can't simply leave the building once SmackDown Live ends. He has 205 Live business to take care of. That meant Truth had a full hour's head start on the former Impact star. That was showcased in a video Maverick posted on Twitter last night. It shows the GM searching the airport before boarding his flight, even quizzing staff as to whether they have seen Truth.
Steve Carino has since revealed that Truth was on a different flight to Maverick. Meanwhile, a dejected Maverick ended his search looking thoroughly upset in his own airplane seat. We might be in the minority but we have thoroughly enjoyed what WWE has done with the 24/7 Title so far. Plus, after King Maxel showed an interest in the championship this week, if Maverick does become champion then we hope the toddler is the one who takes it from him.
