The Dusty Rhodes Classic is a tag team tournament that began in NXT in the year 2015, dedicated to the late, great Dusty Rhodes. It was won by the makeshift pairing of Samoa Joe and Finn Balor, and it returned in 2016 to be won by the Authors of Pain. Due to the Mae Young Classic and UK Tournament in 2017, the WWE didn’t utilize it, but with a plethora of new, up and coming tag teams being brought in to the company, it was time to bring it back.

It was announced on night one of their two-nights of tapings, and we have already had three first round matches (we won’t spoil them here, but there are spoilers out there if you’d like to look them up and find out). It looks to be the most stacked tournament the WWE have run in recent years. With new teams like The Street Profits, The Undisputed Era, War Machine, Sabboteli and Moss all joining the fray with teams like TM+61, Authors of Pain and Sanity, it’s set to be a wild ride.

We don’t know if the tournament is culminating in a tag team title match in New Orleans, or if it’s simply for the glory of winning this great tournament (like we saw at NXT Takeover: Toronto with two tag team matches on the show). But either way, we’re very excited to see it return. My personal pick to win the tournament is War Machine, but I’d also love to see WWE give us a great run from Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate and Trent Seven), possibly leading to the debut of British Strong Style in WWE, but it’s hard to predict, as it’s going to be the most star studded version of the tournament yet.
