WWE caught up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the red carpet of Skyscraper and The People's Champ had an exciting message for his in-ring fans.

The ascent of The Rock in Hollywood and around the world has been nothing short of remarkable. When you see the movie star on the silver screen and on television, it's sometimes hard to compute that he is the same guy who stepped into a WWE ring for the first time more than 20 years ago.

Between June of 2016 and the same month the following year, Rock raked in $65 million according to Forbes, making him the second highest paid actor in Hollywood. The year before that Rocky was number one on that list. Although he doesn't get to return to WWE as often as he might like due to his busy schedule, and hasn't wrestled in a match for more than two years, he hasn't forgotten his roots.

In fact, WWE's own Cathy Kelley caught up with The Rock on the red carpet for the premiere of his new movie, Skyscraper, and he had an interesting message for wrestling fans. The sure-fire Hall Of Famer told Kelley that he "can't wait to get back into a WWE ring". An exciting prospect, although he did not elaborate whether that would be in a wrestling capacity or merely an appearance.

As touched upon above, the last time Rock appeared in WWE was at WrestleMania 32. He technically wrestled in a match, although it can hardly be considered such. Rocky defeated Erick Rowan in just ten seconds. Before that, the last time he competed was at WrestleMania 29 in the main event versus John Cena. In that match, Rock injured himself while delivering a Rock Bottom to Cena which is likely why he hasn't really wrestled since.

Judging by Rock's busy schedule in the coming months it doesn't look like that long-awaited return is going to be coming any time soon. His film about Paige's life, Fighting With My Family, comes out soon, he will be playing Black Adam in the new Suicide Squad movie, and that is really just the tip of the iceberg. WrestleMania 35 in New York next year will be a big one though, perhaps Rocky will somehow find a gap in order to appear at the massive event.
