Veteran guard Dwyane Wade has no idea how it's going to work out emotionally as he goes through his last NBA season, but he's keen to avoid his last dance becoming a distraction to the rest of the team.

The three-time champion announced his decision to play a final campaign with Miami in a touching video during the summer. And he's hoping the extra emotion and energy could help propel the Heat to getting some extra wins on the board.

“I don’t want to look at it as hanging over,” the 36-year-old shooting guard said via the Miami Herald on Wednesday, ahead of the team's first game of the season.

“First of all, let’s use some of it. There’s going to be some great fanfare, there’s going to be some great moments. On the road, we’re going to get a little bit extra people with Miami Heat stuff on. Extra cheers. We want to be able to use it all.”

Meanwhile, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra will attempt to remain out of his feelings for as long as he can. But he's happy to be able to work with the man who helped him win two rings for one more season.

“I don’t want to get too sentimental this early,” the coach said. “I’m just very grateful that we have another season to work together, and I want it to be fun. I want it to be a very memorable season.”

Wade played 26 minutes of the Heat's season opener against the Magic in Orlando on Wednesday night and recorded nine points, 11 rebounds and two assists as Miami lost 104-101.

Goran Dragic led the side in the points department with 26, while Josh Richardson chipped in with 21.

“If I’m honest, we didn’t even talk about that because the only thing that’s important is how we play. It’s winning,” Dragic said in reference to Wade's farewell tour.

“Everybody is smart enough that we know what’s going to come. It’s D-Wade. He’s one of the best players in the league, in the world. He’s given us 16 years in the league, and this is something special.

"We know there are going to be a lot of supporters for him and for us. But we have an obligation. We have our job to do, so we need to focus on the game”

The Heat will play again on Thursday night, with an away fixture against the Washington Wizards looming. They will hope to take their record to 1-1 and build from there.

“I just want guys to go play,” Wade said. “Winning ball games makes this last year that much sweeter. So we just want to get out there and see if we can be a better team than we were last year.”
