The Philadelphia Eagles announced Wednesday that they've brought back wide receiver Jordan Matthews, while moving veteran speedster Mike Wallace to the injured reserve.

The 26-year-old Matthews played with the Eagles from 2014-16, accumulating 225 receptions for 2,673 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had registered at least 800 receiving yards in each of his three seasons with the Eagles.

Matthews will be a key addition to a Philly team that is still without top receiver Alshon Jeffery, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery and hasn't played this season. Wallace fractured his fibula and will miss several weeks of action.

Drafted with the 42nd pick by the Eagles in 2014, Matthews enjoyed three productive seasons in Philly before getting traded - along with a third-round pick - to the Buffalo Bills for cornerback Ronald Darby. The latter helped the Eagles win Super Bowl 52 against the New England Patriots.

Matthews had a down season with the Bills, catching just 25 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown in 10 games. He signed with the New England Patriots in the offseason, but Matthews was let go after it was revealed that he was dealing with a hamstring injury.

The Eagles offense has been inconsistent through the first two weeks of the season, but starting quarterback Carson Wentz is set to return, after spending nine months recovering from a torn ACL injury.

With Wentz now back in the fold, he still has quality options in Nelson Agholor, Zach Ertz and now Matthews. The Eagles still boast a powerful rushing game led by Jay Ajayi, too, so the offense should return to its 2017 form with Wentz back against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Matthews had three productive seasons with the Eagles, and he'll reunite with Wentz and head coach Doug Pederson. It's a nice short-term addition to a Philly team that really needs more pass-catchers.
