The Philadelphia Eagles may be asking Super Bowl hero and backup quarterback Nick Foles to try and save their season once again.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Carson Wentz isn't expected to play this week against the Los Angeles Rams as he nurses a back injury. It's also possible that Wentz won't play again this season, per Rapoport.

The Eagles sit at 6-7 and saw their playoff hopes take a huge hit when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys in overtime this past Sunday. Even if Philadelphia win sout, they are still going to need some help in order to get into the postseason. The 6-6-1 Minnesota Vikings currently hold the final wild card spot in the NFC.

Wentz missed the team's first two games after recovering from a torn ACL, sustained late last season. He looked rusty for the first few weeks, but the No. 2 pick from 2016 got better over time. Now dealing with a back injury, the Eagles may simply be opting to keep it safe and have their star player healthy for next season, rather than ask him to fight through the pain.

The Eagles are at least in good hands with Foles, who looked like a true superstar coming off the bench last season. He helped Philadelphia clinch the top seed in the NFC, then guided them to a shocking Super Bowl 52 appearance, where they dethroned the defending champion New England Patriots.

After their Week 15 contest against the Rams, Philadelphia will host the surging Houston Texans - who've won nine of their last 10 games. Their season wraps up with a road contest against the Washington Redskins - a game that could have serious playoff implications.

What This Means

One storyline to keep in mind here: Foles will be playing out his final games in an Eagles uniform. He's a free agent after this season and will certainly look for a starting gig elsewhere.

Foles led Philly to its first Super Bowl championship last season, but does he have one more run of magic in him before he departs the team that gave him another chance? Nobody should doubt Foles' ability to do it, that's for sure.
