Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas continues to hold out as he searches a new contract, but Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times is reporting that the two teams haven't had any talks.

The 29-year-old Thomas only has one year left on his current deal, and the Pro Bowl safety is definitely worthy of a long-term contract. With Kam Chancellor announcing his intentions to retire due to a neck injury, Thomas' value to the Seahawks is bigger than ever before, but yet the team seemingly isn't worried about his holdout.

Pro Football Focus gave Thomas a 90.2 grade for the 2017 season, which puts him in their "elite" category. This is despite his age and recent injury history, so the Seahawks are taking a risk in not paying one of their top players right now.

Seattle owned the NFL's best defense from 2012-15, but injuries and age caused GM John Schneider to make drastic changes. He cut ties with Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman, traded star pass-rusher Michael Bennett to the Philadelphia Eagles and also let go of cornerback Jeremy Lane. With Chancellor retired, Thomas and Bobby Wagner are among the few defensive players left from the 'Legion of Boom' era.

The Seahawks went 9-7 in 2017 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011, and it'll be interesting to see how they go about the current Thomas holdout. He has been linked heavily to the Dallas Cowboys in trade rumors, and it's possible the Seahawks could always look to move Thomas rather than let him continue the holdout.

There's no denying just how much Thomas means to the Seahawks defense, and it's hard to envision them being much better in 2018 if he's not part of it. The front office is taking a massive risk by not paying Thomas, so they'll have to find a resolution sooner rather than later.
