Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore was forced to miss last week's episode of Monday Night Raw, admitting himself into the hospital with a flu virus. Amore actually appeared backstage after being released, but company officials sent The Certified G home.
Though Amore is able to wrestle again, he was pulled from the upcoming Mixed Match Challenge, and replaced with Apollo Crews, who will team up with Nia Jax.
According to Ryan Clark of eWrestlingNews.com, Amore was pulled because WWE was working on promos for the Raw tag teams in the Mixed Match Challenge. Because Amore was sick, they opted to play it safe and go without him.
Amore returned on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, losing to Cedric Alexander by count out after hurting his ankle and getting busted open. Welcome back to television, Enzo.
Since tag team partner Big Cass turned on him, Amore has headlined the Cruiserweight Division. Cass tore his ACL during a match in August, prompting the creative team to have Amore work in singles competition.
Amore won the championship for a second time over Kalisto at the TLC pay-per-view, and his current reign is nearing 80 days. Give the man credit for being able to build a name for himself after being carried by Big Cass - a future main event star - through most of his WWE career.
The Mixed Match Challenge is a 12-part series where all teams will compete for a $100,000 cash prize that'll be donated to charity. It begins on Jan. 16, and can be streamed via Facebook live.
So far, confirmed tag teams include Alexa Bliss & Braun Strowman, Charlotte Flair & Bobby Roode, Sasha Banks & Finn Balor and Asuka & The Miz. Bayley is also taking part, but her partner has yet to be determined. One New Day member (whom fans get to select), will also be in the tournament.
